For thousands of years our people have cared for and managed these lands, carefully cultivating intricate and sophisticated knowledge systems based on the fundamental belief that we are connected to all things.
Many women would love to go out bush but, due to the ongoing impacts of colonisation, maybe don't always feel confident enough to get out there. This 1-2 night experience is specifically designed by Aboriginal women, for Aboriginal women to empower you, no matter your experience level, to feel confident and safe out bush.
Once the basics of camping safety are covered you'll then participate in specially selected activities designed to facilitate cultural healing and to teach you how to strengthen your personal connection to Country.
Lessons on basics of camping and caring for Country include:
- Equipment needed
- Food / cooking
- Campsite selection
- Fire making / safety
- Set-up / pack-up
- General safety advice
Guided mindfulness activities include:
- Creating your connection to Country
- Guided 'listening to Country' bush walks
- Waving workshop
- Ganan (digging stick) making workshop
Participants will gain an increased understanding of cultural practices and come away feeling welcome and safe on Country, connected to the land and empowered to take their friends and family camping.
You'll also receive 20% off all Yilam On Country products!
Target audience: All Fist Nations women are welcome including those from the CALD, LGBTIAQ+, disabled, Elder and Youth communities.
Location: Yilam Connecting to Country experiences are located on the lands of the Taungurung People including the Seymour & Broadford areas
